Evening Programme

18:00 — Opening Ceremony

  • Welcome remarks by representatives of Orangerie.Gallery, and the German-Russian Institute of Culture.

  • Presentation of the exhibition “Liberation” and the figure of Yevgeny Khaldei — the Soviet frontline photojournalist and author of legendary images of liberated Europe.

18:15 — Introduction of the Lecturer

  • Steffen Liebscher — Historian and Kurator, He used to work of the “ Militärhistorische Museum” and “Memorium Nürnberger Prozesse” including as curator of the 2021 exhibition of Yevgeny Khaldei’s photographs. At the current time Steffen Liebscher is taking Referent position in Museum der Freien und Hansestadt Hamburg.

  • 18:30 — Lecture: “The Nuremberg Trial: Justice Through the Lens of Witness Jevgeni Chaldej and the Chronicle of the Nuremberg Trial”

  • In his lecture, Steffen Liebscher will explore the context of the Nuremberg Trials — one of the key events of the 20th century that laid the foundation for international justice. He will share rare facts from the museum’s archives, discuss the work of journalists at the trials, and highlight the unique contribution of Jewgeni Chaldej. During the lecture, original photographs by Khaldei will be shown, immersing the audience in the atmosphere of 1945–1946. Lecture will be in German language

19:30 — Discussion and Q&A;

  • Dialogue about the role of visual testimony in preserving historical memory.

20:00 — Curatorial Tour of the Exhibition “Liberation”

  • Comments on the documentary and artistic aspects of Jewgen Chaldej’s legacy.

20:30 — Closing of the Evening

  • Words of gratitude to participants and partners. Informal conversation with the lecturer and organizers.

About the Project

The event is part of the Year of Remembrance of Dresden’s Liberation from National Socialism and dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Nuremberg Trials. It unites art and history, reminding us of the value of freedom, justice, and human dignity. Through Yevgeny Khaldei’s photographs, participants will see the past through the eyes of a witness who captured not only Victory but also humanity’s striving for peace and truth.
